Hey Blackgirl,
It's October (Happy Libra and Scorpio season btw), and you know what that means. Summer has officially come to a close! We'll be replacing beach dates with study dates and dark summer shades for reading glasses (unless you have perfect 20/20 vision, of course (I'm jealous)).
If you’re like me, I’m sure you’re very VERY excited for this season (and not just because it's my birthday month 😉)
But because for many of us, fall and the new school year means new beginnings. This also means seeing a large uptick in our schedules, which can lead to you not taking the time for yourself and your mental health. Sometimes you may not even know HOW to do that.
So, here are my Top 5 Fall Activities that can help restore some of your energy when you're feeling overwhelmed with the business of life.
#1- Baking
Some of my earliest memories are cooking and baking with my Grandma. From homemade rice-krispies to johnny cakes, we always made something delicious in the kitchen. Then when the pandemic hit and we were stuck inside, I used baking to help center myself with all the craziness happening in the world. When life starts to get tough around this time of year, consider making a fall-themed treat! (Hot tip: pumpkin, apple, and cinnamon are key flavors that'll give you those #Fallvibes).
#2- Bike-riding
Now that the air is beginning to cool and the trees are beginning to change, it's the perfect time to get outside. My favorite way to do that is riding on a bike trail with music blasting in my ears. It's the perfect time to unplug from toxic social media groups (*cough cough* The SHADE ROOM) and reflect on your headspace this time of year.
#3-Festivals and Fairs
With fall there comes the time of festivals and fairs to celebrate the new season. Consider getting a group together to enjoy some activities! If you're a horror film fanatic, you'll love Halloween festivals involving loads of jump-scares and haunted houses! If you're a foodie like me, you might prefer one that centers around local restaurants and food truck tastings. Many cities hold a variety of festivals and fairs for the season, so don't be afraid to check one out!
#4-Make Fall Decor
I know I know, it seems elementary, but doing a hands-on activity is actually the perfect way to ground yourself in the midst of early school year stress. Plus, this gives you some free decoration to put in your room for the season! From colorful paper leaves to plastic, painted pumpkins, you can bring some of that autumn energy into your space!
#5-Take yourself on a date
I tried this a couple weeks ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done! I never thought I would enjoy going to a bookstore and mall by myself as much as I did, and now I've been itching for an opportunity to go back!
Indulge me for a second. Close your eyes and imagine your ideal casual date. Maybe its going to a resturant or taking a walk together in the park. Now, set up a date with yourself to do just that! You can dress up (if that's your preference), play your favorite music as you travel to your destination, and treat yourself the way you deserve; with love, understanding, and kindness! We deserve this and so much more, Blackgirl so don't be afraid to give it to yourself.
I hope this post has given you all some ideas of activities to do this season. If you have any more, don't be afraid to comment them down below!
Keep an eye out for my next post!
